Bonza RIP

Bonza: Here for Allstralia
Bonza was a low-cost carrier (LCC) in Australia which began scheduled service on 31 January 2023, with 15 routes connecting destinations from a base at Sunshine Coast Airport (serving Maroochydore) (plus several routes not touching that base). Over the following 15 months, Bonza dropped three of the original routes, including all service to Coffs Harbour, whilst adding 25 new routes including adding bases at Melbourne and then at Gold Coast Airport in Coolangatta, all with a fleet of just six leased Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. (Two other leased aircraft were returned to lessors before the airline commenced operations.)

Bonza ceased operations on 30 April 2024 after its fleet was repossessed by creditors. Yosef Howard opined on why Bonza failed: poor aircraft choice (the 737 MAX versus older 737s), poor model (leisure destinations with little point-to-point traffic), and more.

Today's Featured Map illustrates Bonza's network. The three dropped routes are (barely) visible in red with the remaining dozen original routes in sea green; post-launch routes are depicted in Bonza's purple.
