Twenty years ago, Pan American World Airways (Pan Am) ceased operations at the conclusion of Pan Am flight 436 from Bridgetown, Barbados to Miami International Airport, operated by Boeing 727-221 Advanced N368PA Clipper Goodwill and piloted by Captain Mark S. Pyle, First Officer Robert Knox, and Flight Engineer Chuck Foreman.
The end came 64 years after Pan Am had operated its first airmail service on 19 October 1927 in a chartered Fairchild FC-2 floatplane, and barely 56 years ago after the completion of Pan Am's first trans-Pacific flight by China Clipper.
